Test of profits, Stores to be open on boxing day

For years in this country it has always been tradition at Christmas to sit back relax and enjoy your time with your family. Getting ready for the Christmas dinner and watch the usual repeats that play through out the festive period. Then usual the next day you have loads of left over meat and accompanied with pickles, with not a store open in site, well except for Tesco last year , as many would just spend time with their families and get out the bored games.

Yet with the tradition and religion which has taken place for years, by not having stores open in boxing day and through out most of the Christmas period. Many of the large chain super markets are about to change all that with them proposing to open at least 500 stores this Christmas. With many more people having to go in to work to stack shelves rather then eating last nights left over mince pies.

The top three super market chains that wanted to open more stores were,: Asda, Tesco  and Sainsburys with Tesco being the only store last year to be open with record profits made, it would seem that the other two giants want a piece of that market this year. With Tescos they will be opening a further 175 stores this year 50 up from last year and will leave all express shops open which is in the thousand range. Asda will have open up to 100 stores around the country, leaving Sainsburys opening around 200 stores this year. Most being smaller outlets, they also plan on opening 35 major stores which they never had open last year.

The supermarket giants want to test the water to see how well they do this year through the Christmas period to see if it’s worth opening more or less stores next year round. With all these stores being opened there will be a lot of people who will have their Christmas period disrupted.
